Our History
Stan Robinson (Stafford) Ltd founded
After working for various local haulage companies in Stan’s early life, at the age of 30, Stan decided that enough was enough and he was not going to work for anyone else except for himself. The year was 1970 and he had a chance to buy a second hand lorry, a four wheeler commer, and the “Stan Robinson story” started.
Purchased W. Davies & Co
After parking his lorry in the garden of his home for a few years, Stan decided he wanted to expand into his own haulage business, so he rented Colwich Station Yard where he then himself came off the road to run the lorries from the premises. As the business grew, Stan acquired a local haulage company, Davies Transport who had the Evode delivery contract (known now as Bostik). This is how our working relationship started with Bostik and is still continuing at present.
Stafford Head Office Opened
In 1979 the business out grew the premises at Colwich. Stan had the opportunity to buy a three acre site with an office, garage and warehouse at Seighford. He purchased this site and over the years has purchased more of the land around the site and developed it into the Ladford Fields that we see today.
Procured Peter Laing Carriers of Duntocher; became the initial Glasgow Depot
Over the years Stan took many big decisions in which to expand the business. He wanted a depot in Glasgow so in 1989 he acquired a haulage company in Glasgow complete with vehicles, premises and a customer base and started the trunking system between the two depots. This is where the start of our working relationship with Tunnock Biscuits was formed.
Implemented RoadRunner Traffic Management System
Devon Depot opened
After the success of Glasgow depot and the way the business was going forward, Stan decided that we needed a depot in Devon as we were serving the south of the country every day. We then purchased the Willand site and developed this site as we have expanded.
Darlington Depot opened
To enable us to serve the North East, we purchased a company in Ferryhill in 1998, then moved to our present Darlington site a few years later.
Achieve Haulier of the Year award
It was Stan’s ultimate dream to win “Haulier of the Year” and he achieved this in 1999. It was a very proud occasion for Stan, his family and employees.
